Sony Consumer Electronics Japan has announced impressive launch sales of the PlayStation 2-cum-TIVO device that is the PSX.
According to SCEJ, over 100,000 units have been shifted since the machine launched back on December 13, making the PSX an unquestionable success.
More important however, is the news that the PSX now holds a 36% market share in the DVD recording sector - incredible given that DVD recording arguably makes up only a third of the machine’s functionality.
As of this point, no official word of a western release of the PSX has been received. However several highly placed Sony officials have confirmed off the record that plans are afoot.
And interestingly, the machine - in Europe at least - is likely to be handled by Sony Computer Entertainment, not the Consumer Electronics division as was thought. Wait a minute, that’s not at all interesting. Never mind.
Expect everything fresh and exciting relating to the PSX, right here.
