The recent PS2 price cut in Japan has resulted in a 193% jump in hardware sales according to SCE Vice President Masatsuka Saeki. Sony typically shift somewhere between 20,000-30,000 units in its home territory each week, but in the last two weeks, 130,000 units have been sold.
The cut saw Sony’s console drop from 24,800 yen (£130) to 19,800 yen (£105).
In other news, Sony is gearing up to launch PS2 in China this December with a retail price equivalent to £130. Currently, Koei, Bandai, Konami, Namco, Sega, Capcom and Taito are preparing Chinese translations of their latest releases in order to help Sony deliver a strong line up.
