NEC shows future racer

Can F-Zero clone re-ignite tired genre?

Following up on yesterday’s news that NEC, the firm behind the fabled PC Engine, will be returning to the console market, several screens of its first game have leaked out.

The game is Tube Slider and is a futuristic racing game, not dissimilar in appearance to, well, any other game from the over-plagiarised and tired genre.

From what we can see, a great deal of the inspiration for Tube Slider is taken from F-Zero, not a bad thing. Time will tell if it can hope to match, under any conditions, a racer co-developed by Nintendo and Sega.

Tube Slider, which will be exclusive to GameCube, should be out in the next few months, though as yet, there’s been no word on a possible European publisher.
