GameStop's CEO Paul Raines appears to have access to a crystal ball. Or at least a loyalty card for insider information from Michael Pachter - the exec has declared that he does not expect the next PlayStation and Xbox to both be released in 2013. It'll be one, then the other."This week, I'm getting a lot of rumors that are very interesting about 2013," Raines told Polygon. "We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013. We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumors change every week, but we're hearing more about next year."
Sony has previously stated that giving its rival Microsoft any kind of headstart for the upcoming generation would be "undesirable". That said, with more Microsoft console rumours flying around in the past few months than we can count, it's likely that the next Xbox could make a 2013 launch.
