Ready for another console flame war? How about this one - according to a study from data specialist Kantar Worldpanel, UK PS3 owners are more willing to pay for digital content than Xbox 360 users. Here are the figures: in the last year, 8 million people have purchased a digital film, TV show or game in the UK. Specifically, over 1 million people have paid for a digital game, and a further 500,000 bought DLC for a game. Here's the kicker - 17 per cent of PS3 gamers happily spent money on such content, while 11 per cent of Xbox 360 users did the same.
Yeah, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Xbox losers! You're all incredibly cheap tightwads... or something. That wasn't very convincing, was it? Sorry about that - you'll have to replace this with your own juvenile console-based insult here.
Don't think that digital is becoming the dominant medium for entertainment just yet, though. "Although the digital market is growing, consumers are at present choosing to engage with both physical and digital content, rather than switching from one format to the other," says Fiona Keenan, Kantar Worldpanel consumer insight manager.
"As this behaviour continues, it’s important that retailers offer a complete entertainment package to meet the needs of their consumers."
