There are several reports from America of Xbox hardware units failing within one or two days of being bought.
The problem is characterized by the machine freezing, as though crashed, and will not reboot. The power/disc access light on the front of the machine then blinks red and green when the power us turned on.
Microsoft describes this fault as an “Internal problem [that] requires service.” And advises gamers to “contact an Xbox support representative at Xbox Customer Care.”
In a brief statement Microsoft in the US said “There is no recall or widespread problem with Xbox.”
This news is a blessing in disguise for UK Xbox buyers, since it is likely that Microsoft will have identified and fixed the problem before Xboxes destined for the UK even enter production.
