Microsoft has Extended the Xbox 360 Life-Cycle
Microsoft has released figures for the January games sales market. It’s all good news for the company. Also, the Xbox 360’s life-cycle has been extended by Kinect apparently

With normal business language the company states that:

“Historically, after several years in the console lifecycle there is a softening of demand, but Xbox 360 continues to defy that convention.”

In this case, of course, ‘softening of demand’ means ‘people aren’t buying’ but softening sounds, well, nicer on the ears of stockholders and analysts who all agree to be fooled by the language.

However, there seems to be a little confusion within the camp regarding the use of ‘Life-cycle’ and this has resulted in the console’s one being extended.

Says the company,"Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the lifecycle of the console by re-imagining entertainment and delivering new technologies like Kinect for Xbox 360, a new Xbox dashboard, and new entertainment content partners in 2011."

So, how well did the console do in January?

- ‘More than 270,000 Xbox 360’ were sold in January in the USA.
- “Xbox has 49 percent of the market, with hardware, software and accessory sales of $301 million in January. Its 11th straight month with more than 40 percent of the market.”
- Xbox has five of the top 10 U.S. console game titles in January -- Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, NBA 2K12 and Just Dance 3."
