Gfk Takes Full Control of Chart-Track as UKIE Sells Up
UKIE - the UK games publishers body has sold its 20% share of Gfk Chart-Track, the UK games sales auditor, to Gfk.

Okay, here's the background:

The UK video game charts that you read avidly each week come from a Chart-Track. This company was created with help from ELSPA, which in turn became UKIE. Gfk, the European games charts publisher bought a large chunk of Chart-Track in 2008.

MCV reports that, "That deal covers the weekly Monday morning boxed product charts, plus the regular monthly, quarterly and annual reports made up from that data. Member access to the data will be cheaper, too, the organisation says.

"Likewise, GfK Chart-Track will have increased independence in how it uses the data it collates, and is able to use it in more of its own bigger pan-European reports without UKIE approval."

The extra cash might also mean that we finally get digital download charts too.
