North American stat gatherer NPD has released figures for video game software, hardware and peripheral sales in its region for February 2011. US gamers spent $1.36, a 3 per cent ($150m) rise compared to the same period last year. Xbox 360 'won'.Most of the rise in spending was down to a 32% increase in hardware sales.
Total hardware revenue hit $466.9 million in February 2011, compared with $426.4 million in February 2010.
Accessories, including Kinect and Move, rose to $257 million compared with $200 million.
Software was five percent down, however, to $601.4 million as opposed to $636 million in February 2010.
Although NPD no longer reports on actual hardware figures, indications
VGChartz is quoting the following:
Xbox 360 sales rose to 535,000 compared with 424,000 in February 2010.
Wii was also up, in its case to 454,000 units from 399,000.
PS3 sales were not available although NPD's Anita Frazier has said that Sony's console also saw a sales increase.
