You might, like us, occasionally be lead to believe that PR is the same as marketing. It's not. PR is the skill of making good things fantastic and bad things disappear. Marketing is "the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling". So, it comes as a surprise to see Cliff Bleszinski saying the following:“PR is necessary, you need it now. You need to figure out how to put yourself out there."
It has to be said that coming from the former 'Cliffy B' - now matured into the kind of creative mind who gives interviews to the BBC World Service, you need to take notice.
Mr Bleszinski was speaking at GDC when he noted that, "You need to be a chameleon, and you also need to be able to sit down with the hardcore coder, and the hippie artist, and sit down with the marketing guy and get drunk and have fun with him. And do not be afraid to be public with yourself."
The logical conclusion to all this? "Put yourself out there," says Mr B, "You may be a person, but ultimately you have to be a brand."
Alternatively of course, you could rely on stating the facts? Are we naive? Tell us in the comments.
