The race for the best-selling home console of 2010 in Japan has taken a new turn, as the PlayStation 3 has overtaken Nintendo's Wii in annual sales.Figures from Media Create dating back to January show that the PS3 has sold 1,017,094 units to date, compared to 1,015,513 Wii consoles. The release of several high profile titles for Sony's platform - including
Yakuza 4,
Sengoku Basara 3 and
Fist of the North Star: Warriors - has kept the PS3 in good stead.
MCV notes that in the US, the Wii is also being overtaken in 2010 sales by the Xbox 360. While Nintendo's white box was the darling of the sales charts for several years, it seems to be being beaten in momentum by the launch of PlayStation Move and the promise of Kinect.
It's worth noting that the Wii's total install base is much greater than either the Xbox 360 or the PS3. But this trend surely can't be pleasing for Nintendo. What say you, readers?
