THQ Gets into Hardware with Gaming Tablet

uDraw comes along

Posted by Staff
THQ has made the leap into hardware with a gaming tablet for the Wii called the uDraw Game Tablet, which will be out in time for the kids to scribble with in early 2011'.

Coming in at 22.9cm long and 15.2cm wide, the drawing pad has 10.2 x 15.2 centimetres on which to draw. You do this with the uDraw Studio software, which is aimed squarely at kids. The little un's will use the pressure-sensitive pen (see the image).

The official word is that "The Wii Remote docks discretely within the uDraw GameTablet, allowing the device to draw power directly from the Wii Remote. A convenient storage area hides the Wii Remote wrist strap and stylus when not in use.

"The uDraw GameTablet also features tilt-and-roll movement options, allowing players to interact and control in-game characters by moving and directing them through game levels. Additionally, SD-card support enables players to save and print their artwork and other uDraw creations."

Also in the software mix are Pictionary and an adventure game called Dood's Big Adventure. More games are in the pipeline.

Pricing is only available in dollars at the moment, with tablet and studio priced at $69.99. The other games come in at $29.99 each.

Wait a minute - printing requires a PC, doesn't it? So why is this made for the Wii? They have their own peripheral, so what is it you can do on the Wii that you can't do on a PC (if you hypothetically own both)?

Can you say "Drawn To Life for Wii". Oh, you can. It's called Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. Pfft. Maybe this will be the "Nexterer Chapter"?

Without a touch screen it all seems a bit last decade/century/millennium to me
