Just another normal day in Japan.
Just another normal day in Japan.
The back-and-forth between the Wii and PlayStation 3 continues in this week's Japanese Hardware Chart (28th June - 4th July 2010, courtesy Media Create), as this time it is Nintendo's console that gets the minority lead against its rival, topping the home console chart. With a flurry of new software, the Nintendo DS sits comfortably atop the handheld list.

Home Console
Wii: 21,964 (19,115)
PS3: 20,077 (19,578)
360: 7,303 (17,370)
PS2: 1,594 (1,530)

Handheld
DSi LL: 32,661 (41,676)
PSP: 24,685 (23,257)
DSi: 18,271 (17,306)
DS Lite: 5,339 (5,029)
PSP Go: 1,024 (845)

(Previous week's unit sales in brackets for comparison)

Interestingly, out of all of Nintendo's handheld devices the flagship DSi LL is the only one that sees a sales drop from last week. This is despite absolutely explosive sales of Inazuma Eleven 3 – the DSi and DS Lite platforms experience a little sales boost, however.

All of Sony's platforms outperform over last week's numbers – the release of BlazBlue has kept the PS3 on its toes against the Wii, while the continuing presence of Winning Eleven has kept the PSP dream alive. Even the PSP Go has had a sort-of impressive comeback – if managing to break 1000 units and narrowly avoid product destruction counts as a comeback, that is.

The honeymoon many gamers had with the Xbox 360 over Monster Hunter Frontier appears to be coming to an end, with a huge 10,000 unit plummet from last week. If only Microsoft Japan had a big-hitting title like this every week, to keep the momentum up.
