Somebody at Microsoft Japan is popping champagne corks at the news that the company has sold over 17,000 Xbox 360 consoles in the region this week. The power of Monster Hunter Frontier Online has put the platform a few thousand units behind the Wii in the Japanese Hardware Chart (21st - 27th June 2010, courtesy Media Create).

The Xbox 360's surge is even more surprising considering its sales figures for last week – a paltry 2,060 units. Using our totally unscientific calculations, that's an increase of just over 843%. Get in. For the first time in what feels like forever, the Xbox 360 is a contender against the PlayStation 3 and Wii – which both also see gains this week.
The other big story here is the continued boost in DSi LL sales, following a price cut for the line of Nintendo handhelds that saw its numbers skyrocket. No doubt the release of Love Plus + also helped the fortunes of the large-screen portable. Would be a crying shame to have to marry a virtual girlfriend without seeing her face in as big a resolution as possible, after all.
