Remember when Cliff 'Cliffy-B' Bleszinski gave Xbox World 360 Magazine and CVG (as well as the games press at large) a bit of a hammering over misquoting him on Japan's technical capabilities? Well, the two publications have rolled over and issued an apology.

The CVG report that brought Bleszinski's 'comments' to the world now includes the following update: "Xbox World 360 Magazine has issued an apology to Cliff Bleszinski, after misquoting him - via a production error - in its latest issue. Bleszinski never said: "Part of the problem is, technically, Japan just can't keep up with the US." CVG also apologises to Cliff for any aggravation/inconvenience caused by the mistake."

The misquote led to a bit of a Twitter tirade from the Epic developer. There were cross words. There was a smiley. It wasn't pretty.

What actually happened was that the interviewer asked: "Q. Epic have plans to move into markets like Japan, Korea and China? I personally think that part of the problem is, technically, Japan just can't keep up with the US... Would they benefit from using the Unreal Development Kit?"

And Mr B replied, "A. To be frank, this is largely not my department. It's a strategic decision by Epic to continue to provide Middleware solutions to developers all around the world. My department is: 'Ooh, let's make the fun!' But yes, it's very much a strategic play; knocking on Japanese doors and saying: 'Hey, if you use this you can cut through a lot of the costs of building your own engine plus have a better game that comes out sooner and costs less money.' It's pretty much that simple."

Simple mistake. No, really.
