Japan Hardware: PS3 Maintains Lead
This week's Japanese Hardware Chart (12th - 18th April 2010, courtesy Media Create) sees the PlayStation 3 edge out the Wii once more, despite the console seeing the biggest dip in sales out of all the platforms listed. Clearly Travis Touchdown wasn't charismatic enough to prop up the Xbox 360 either, as it too experiences a drop from last week.

Home Console
PS3: 25,590 (28,973)
Wii: 24,344 (25,345)
360: 2,442 (3,218)
PS2: 1,531 (1,425)

Handheld
PSP: 28,635 (29,766)
DSi LL: 17,146 (19,372)
DSi: 11,240 (13,738)
DS Lite: 2,869 (3,349)
PSP Go: 1,915 (1,826)

(Previous week's unit sales in brackets for comparison)

In handheld land, the PSP is still sitting pretty at the top thanks to continued strong 3000 sales. Just what is happening in Japan to that portable that's not translating in the West? Its support is quite remarkable. Collectively the Nintendo DS series outperforms Sony's PSP family, but that's in spite of spiralling sales for the DSi and DSi LL.

The underdogs are the real winners this week, with the PlayStation 2 and PSP Go getting small lifts in unit sales.
