You'd think, with New Super Mario Bros. Wii topping the Japanese software charts, that the same would be true of the Nintendo Wii in the hardware charts. Well, you'd be right. The motion-controlled console regains top position after an impressive showing by the PlayStation 3 the week before. The Wii beat back the PS3 by over 100,000 units, which is shockingly impressive even despite the console's popularity. While Sony's HD machine is still riding on the momentum of
Final Fantasy XIII, it seems that the game's popularity is dropping rather quickly, and that's prevented the PS3 from getting close to the previous week's figures.
In the Handheld chart, Nintendo mirrors its strength over Sony as the DSi continues to beat the PSP in sales. It's hardly a fair fight though – the DS family amassed a total of 213,109 units to the PSP's 109,993 (including the PSP Go, which thankfully has seen a small sales boost over the holiday).
All hardware figures are up over the previous week, with the exception of the Xbox 360 which seemed
left out of the retail cold. Poor little (big) thing.
