The PS3 outsold the Wii in March over in Japan according to games industry sales tracker, Enterbrain. For those keeping count, that's the first time in 16 months.
According to Enterbrain, which also publishes Japanese gaming bible,
Famitsu, 146,948 PS3s were sold in March. That compares to 99,335 Wiis and (way behind both) 43,172 Xbox 360s shifted.
Credit for the Sony coup is being lavished on SEGA and Capcom, which released
Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (
Yakuza 3) and
Resident Evil 5.
Figures released by Enterbrain last week indicated that the Xbox 360 has topped a million sales in Japan, while the PS3 has reportedly sold over three times that.
While sales tracking is a mysterious art, however, it would seem that it's not an exact one. The other big collator of Japanese games industry sales stats, Media Create, has
figures that clash with those of Enterbrain, making it unclear whether the 360 and PS3 have, indeed, topped their respective milestones of 1m and 3m.
