Japan: Xbox 360 Beats PS3 in September
Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain has released its Japanese hardware sales figures for September, showing that for the first month ever, the Xbox 360 has outsold the PlayStation 3 over there.

Not only did Microsoft's console outdo the PS3 in the four weeks leading to September 28th, it did so convincingly. 53,547 Xbox 360s were sold, compared to 33,071 PS3s. A couple of factors have helped the 360. One is the console's price cut, which took effect on September 11th. The other was the 360-exclusive launch of Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery.

The Wii's sales, of course, remained un-phased. 109,548 units of Nintendo's home console were shifted in the period.

Overall, it was once again the DS that ruled the proverbial roost. 234,477 units of the handheld were sold over the period. That compared to 109,274 PSPs shifted. The PSP lost a bit of momentum through September, with 291,944 units of the handheld having been sold in the five weeks leading up to August 31st. This is no doubt due to the October 16th launch of the PSP 3000.

The DS may well see a similar drop in sales in Japan over October as folk wait for the DSi, due out on November 1st.

Here's the list of hardware sales figures for September in Japan;

DS: 234,477
Wii: 109,548
PSP: 109,274
Xbox 360: 53,547
PS3: 33,071

Its amazing given the size of Japan and how long the PSP and DS Lite have been out over there that its selling tons and tons, the real reason is exporters to Hong Kong based companies and ebaying selling to other parts of the world.
Can also apply to the PS3 as well.
