Tretton: What can I say... seriously... what?
It has to be said that during his presentation at E3 recently, Sony Computer Entertainment America's top-man, Jack Tretton looked as if he'd prefer to be anywhere in the world. But at least he was able to announce that PlayStation and Google/Youtube's collaboration - PlayStation Life - would be ready for PS3 owners by the end of July.

With the likelihood that Home is going to be another stitch in the banner marked, "DelayStation", it's not a good time for something like Life to slip. But, according to Noam Rimon (a Senior Development Manager at SCEA R&D), it has. Here's what Noam has to say on the US PlayStation blog.

"Due to a few procedural matters, the new service will make its way to PlayStation fans in August", exactly when in August is not known. What is known is that PS3 owners are growing restless...

SS4 is the village Idiot, his ramblings of all hatred and bitterness to anything anti-MS is of legend, tho SS4 is respected in the community for not his opinion or even in fact the way he stands completely by what he says no matter how f**king idiotic it IS! but for the fact that he has no eyes, ears or hands yet still manages to post, and for this reason is the only reason he is allowed to stay.

But i look forward to my daily dose of Vitamin SS4, as it reminds me that no matter how stupid some of my comments have/will be/en or anyone else`s for that matter, or how closed minded, at least the ressident mascot can come along and take complete focus off said posts!

and for this i thank you SS4 and may you continue to splurt bullshit from every orifice avalible on your female/male body, which no doubt is pure white so white the sight of which would blind you, i say this because only someone who has never ever set foot outside and seen the real world would be able to "splurt" as you "splurt"

The SS4 fan club starts here. All members must be able to grasp the meaning of irony, which might keep SS4 out of his/her/it's own club...Which would be ironic...maybe.

Even though the service SS4 provides is voluntary. Is it an immoral exploitation of SS4’s affliction to make yourself feel superior by reading his posts?

Is the delay because:

a) The technical challenge of something that's never been tried before by anybody else?

b) Sony's legal team need to check a bit closer that it doesn't look too much like something that has been tried before by somebody else?

or

c) Sony, having built a supercomputer for the home, found their brilliant programming instructions had been eaten by the dog?

It can stay turned on for long enough to play a DVD without overheating or locking up! :-)

Last time I played a DVD in my PS3, the damn cooling fan kicked in, at full power, and that fan is loud, even by XBOX standards. You could use it to dry your hair.
And that kind of pisses me off, as movie watching was the the main reason for getting it. (least that's what I told my girlfriend).

your just trying to bait now, SS4, dont know why im bothering but.... does it matter if graphics are slightly better on PS3 if the game play is the same?

PS3 has some good s**t coming and some good looking s**t at that, just because your 360 strokes your head while you sleep doesnt mean its the be all and end all of gaming,

their is plenty of greatness on the 360 as well as the PS3 and Wii (if you look) i feel sorry for you that you wont experince gaming for what it is and that`s competitive fun and enjoyment, how sad and pathetic must your life be to compare games! really just take it for what it is and as for Ridge Racer name one person who got the PS3 version and is gutted by that fact? and if you check the reviews of ridge racer 6 on 360 vs ridge racer 7 on PS3 you will see the PS3 version wins hands down on gameplay.

really WTF do i bother coming down to your emebic level and to try and make your see beyond you snoz, when i could be playing my PS3 or 360 and realizing both of there potential. LOSER!

I've never had that issue and my front room gets very hot in the summer. Are you able to stand your PS3 vertically? I've found that does a lot to cut down the need for the fans and hence prevent noise.

Thanks tyrion, but I already have it upright, and it's behind the TV to block direct noise, and it's in plenty space for good air flow. It may be getting a little heat from other stuff the rack but this room never gets over 22 oC and it's over a foot away from the other heat sources. This is a 40gb model and mucking about with AV settings was had an effect sometimes but not last time. Any suggestions are welcome.
My biggest hope is that the (hopefully) up coming wireless HD format comes on an HDMI dongall so it and the XBox can go some where else. It's either that or heavy curtains to hang behind it.

Mine is pretty quiet too on DVD playback it may be a faulty fan or a screw lose even, possibly send it off to Sony HQ should it be warranty?

as for WHDI i doubt we will see that for a few years yet. at least a finalise spec.

If it's a fault, it's not a mechanical one. It would be good to get some info on what conditions might trigger the full fan to kick in. Maybe the trigger point is set to low on mine, maybe the up-scaler pulls more power than you'd think. However I do know of another PS3 that engages its full fan, though it is sighted in a tight space.
If you've not heard the full fan, it doesn't sound like something is wrong, nothing rattles or grates, it's just the sound of a hell of a lot of air being shifted very quickly through a PS3.

As my other hobby is Hi-Fi, I'd say that something like WHDI has been in the offing for a while, so think a lot of the ground work has been done, it's more a case of who gets what in licences and deciding how DRM to shove down our necks.
My main fear is that the AV market loves making stuff that not backwards or forwards compatible, so no HDMI dongle, and as HDMI 1.3 has been out for about 2 years and as that's just starting to get into affordable AV amps, the AV Industry will want to move on, as it does every 6 to 12 months.

To sound like SS4, your post would need more yoof speak, less point and no thought, and most of all, much, more, bitterness.

And getting back to the point, (as you requested), I’d much prefer things to be good rather than soon, but at what point does a delay that follows other delays become a piss take? That said have the delays on Life been that bad (yet)? The Duke Nukem award for most delayed PS3 project should maybe go to something else. There must be a few candidates.

UPDATE. I have put the PS3 on to an "acoustic steel" plinth from “Custom Design”, that I was going to use under my CD transport. I also moved it off the shelf it shared with the TV and down closer to floor level, which I think, does two things; it can’t use the TV as a resonator, via the shared glass shelf, and sound reflections don’t have such as easy path to get to me.
As the 360 is quieter, not on end, I’ve done the same with the PS3 as well.

All this has paid off massively, in terms of noise reduction. There’s still a lot of hot air being pumped out the back of the PS3, but don’t need to turn up volume by 15dB plus, to hear the quite bits, and risk blowing something, (eardrums or windows as the speakers and sub are form ATC), when the gun fire kicks off. Now the wee fan on my PVR swamps the sound of the PS3.

The down sides are that the low resonance plinth wasn’t cheap, near the floor the PS3 will suck up a lot more dust, and the PVR the plinth now sits over gets warmer than it did, which can sometimes trigger its fan, even in standby. Bloody forced air cooling!

I simply dip mine in to a large tank of Strawberry jelly (any jelly will do but pineapple doesnt seem to set very well) that i prepared 12 hours ealier and has been allowed to cool in the refridgerator, the up sides are the cooling effects are amazing all my PS3, 360, 5.1 Sound and even My 40" Bravia HDTV all run coola nd perfectly silent, the only downside i have found is that the 360 seems to be tasting rather weird, although my recent research into Ice cream cooling counters the effect.

Weirder things have been tried in Hi-Fi. Putting jelly like stuff in or around a Hi-Fi is not unusual, or weird, and it wouldn’t even surprise me if someone had tried different flavours.

I remember a fair bit of discussion, about putting a piece paper under one leg of the chair you sat in, for listening. To be fair, most of the debate was about how deluded someone was if they heard a difference. That said, quite a few tried it, just to check, that they weren’t one of the deluded.

SuperSaiyan4 is the reason I don't really do Spong any more. Sick of reading that retarded emo's fanboy bullshit. So I frequent other sites instead now. Shame, I used to enjoy Spong but it's just not worth the forehead-pounding pain of reading that f**king idiot's posts.
