The latest Japanese monthly console sales stats show that Sony’s PS3 is continuing to close the gap on Nintendo’s Wii for the fourth month in a row.
Sony sold 47,183 PlayStation 3s in Japan in October compared to Nintendo shifting just over twice that amount – a total of 110,415 Wii units in the same month.
SPOnG expects to see the gap close even more from November thru January, the busiest sales months for software, when the soon-to-be-released 40GB PlayStation 3 models in Japan become available in black and a rather fetching ceramic (iPod) white. Microsoft still lags way behind in third place in Japan, having managed to shift only 18,717 Xbox 360s throughout October.
