Following financial analyst Merrill Lynch’s forecast that Microsoft Corporation will lose $2 billion in the first five years of the Xbox’s life, Microsoft seems not to care.
“That forecast was based on information and targets that have not been shared with the public,'' said John O'Rourke, director of games marketing for Microsoft. There was no word on how Microsoft plans on making its Xbox a profitable venture.
This is excellent news for us as consumers. Microsoft is planning on selling us a console, the best console in the world, a console that costs $380 to make, for $299.
Usually the 1:1 Dollar to Sterling rate applies to everything. There is a good chance that Microsoft will break this tradition.
$2 billion is not a lot of money to the world’s richest company. It is also a cheap price to pay for what could become global domination of the home console market.
