Datel has just released the X-port that allows you to connect your PlayStation 2 to your PC. This device gives you almost unlimited storage capacity because you can use your high capacity hard drive as a storage medium for saving your games. Say goodbye to buying memory card after memory card because for the price of one 8MB card, you can purchase this transfer device. A 20 gigabyte hard drive can hold the same amount of information as 2,500 memory cards.
The X-port has another advantage under its belt. You will be able to download saves from the Internet and load them onto your PS2. If you find a game frustrating or want to unlock all of the hidden extras, downloading a complete save will solve your problems. You will be able to load, save, delete, edit and exchange files like there’s no tomorrow, and then send files via e-mail to friends across the country. Ideal for comparing and beating each other’s times on a racing games, for example.
Grant Hughes, Datel's marketing manager had this to say about X-port: "Now that users can exchange game save files and Yabasic programs, we could be seeing the beginnings of an online PlayStation2 community," he added. "There are exciting times ahead for PlayStation2 owners. Just think, soon you'll be able to exchange entire songs you've created with MTV Music Generator - all thanks to X-Port."
There is a downside to the X-port. PC’s and PS2’s are rarely in the same room, so bear this mind before you rush out and buy
