Electronic Arts Los Angeles studios (formerly Dreamworks) has announced two new World War II titles in its Medal of Honour series.
The first, Medal of Honour Frontline, will continue in the fine tradition of the earlier titles and will be a Nazi-blasting first-person shooter. Due out in February 2002, MOH Frontline sees the welcome return of hero Jimmy Patterson.
Jimmy must penetrate the German frontline and steal the top secret HO-IX fling wing. The levels vary from Bond-style stealthy sabotage to all-out fighting.
Dreamworks has upped the ante a little for its PlayStation 2 debut, and has incorporated a new lighting engine that it says will revolutionise 3D gaming. The score and sound effects have been written by the award winning Michael Giacchino Group.
Patterson will be equipped with a whole host of real World War II weaponry and items, which will include the Liberator pistol and fake ID for stealth missions.
The next game from the team comes as a bit of a surprise. Medal of Honour Fighter Commander will be a mission-based air combat flight simulator set in World War II. The team behind the series has created a brand new PS2 game engine for the title, allowing players the opportunity to pilot dozens of wartime planes.
Missions will range from reconnaissance assignments to guarding bomber squadrons on their way into battle. The dog-fighting will play a big part of the game with pilots’ kudos and reputation being an important factor in how the game progresses.
You will also be able to play different roles in the formation, even operating as gunner or radar man on the bombers.
Medal of Honour Fighter Commander is scheduled for release in 2002.
