Here at SPOnG we are huge fans of liquid metal puzzler,
Mercury Meltdown as you can see from our recent reviews of latest versions of the game on both
PSP and
PlayStation 2.So it’s good news today, as Ignition has just sent word that Mercury Meltdown will be heading to the Nintendo Wii next spring. Ironically entitled
Mercury Meltdown Revolution – that is unless the Ignition boys haven’t yet realised that Nintendo changed the name of the new console back in April.
Amongst other features in the game, the one that really stands out has to be the ‘state of the art blob physics’. Awesome!
Just as with
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz players will direct the liquid mercury blob around mazes with the Wii Remote’s tilt sensor. And just as with
Monkey Ball it’s bound to divide opinion here at SPOnG towers.
Having given Sega’s wonderful
Banana Blitz a good bashing already on Wii, we are already splitting into two fairly distinct camps – those who think it’s just not
quite as good as the original GameCube version, and those who boldly claim it is alongside
Twilight Princess as a must-buy Wii launch title.
Back to
Mercury Meltdown Revolution, Ignition's Product Manager Peter Rollinson points out that "The mercury series was originally developed with a tilt controller in mind… Wii has made this possible and the outcome provides the player with unprecedented control and accuracy."
If you’re not a fan of the Wii Remote for controlling fiddly puddles of poisonous Mercury around, then the game also supports the Wii Classic and GameCube controllers
With 480p support, over 150+ challenging levels and loads of hidden labs and bonus features to unlock, it’s something that we look forward to getting a hands on with early in the new year.
