RED STORM ENTERTAINMENT, INC. FORMED TO ENTER EXPLOSIVE ONLINE AND CD-ROM BASED COMPUTER GAMES MARKETS

Company Joins Creative Talents of Acclaimed Author Tom Clancy with Market-Leading 3-D Software Tools Developer Virtus Corporation

CARY, NC – November 13, 1996 – Tom Clancy, the best-selling author, and Virtus Corporation, the leader in 3-D multimedia authoring tools, announced today the formation of Red Storm Entertainment. The new company will develop and market interactive computer games, with a focus on the online multiplayer gaming market.

Red Storm Entertainment enters the market with a proven development team comprised of the engineers and artists of Virtus Studios, which has become part of Red Storm Entertainment. “This is a whole new world for storytellers – better than that, a way for readers to help do the telling,” said Tom Clancy, chairman of the board of Red Storm Entertainment. “Our goal is to define the state of the art in computer games, and take it further on from there.”

Heading Red Storm Entertainment as president and chief executive officer is Doug Littlejohns. Mr. Littlejohns was most recently managing director of two of Europe’s busiest convention centers, Earls Court Ltd. And Olympia Exhibitions Ltd., as well as the deputy chairman of Beeton Rumford Ltd., a large London-based catering company. Prior to joining the business community, Mr. Littlejohns was a Commodore in the British Royal Navy with a distinguished career including four command tours. Mr. Littlejohns has worked closely with Tom Clancy for more than 12 years, starting as an advisor on Mr. Clancy’s best-seller, Red Storm Rising, and recently acting as technical consultant for the interactive game Tom Clancy SSN.

“We are entering the interactive gaming market at an extremely exciting time,” said Doug Littlejohns. “The emergence of a worldwide single standard for networking, coupled with the transformation of personal computers into powerful entertainment machines affords us a tremendous opportunity to build a new class of multiplayer gaming software. The creative vision of Tom Clancy and the technical talents of Red Storm Entertainment’s development team allow us to become a pioneering force with the objective of capturing a significant slice of this emerging market.”

Online interactive games allow multiple players to participate worldwide over the Internet. According to research firm Jupiter Communications, New York, NY, the online games market is expected to grow from $50 million in 1995 to $1.6 billion by the year 2000. Additionally, Jupiter estimates that close to 100 million households will be playing online games by the year 2000.
