SWING! Entert@inment Media today injected an extra shot of adrenaline into the European release of the eagerly-awaited Skysurfer for PlayStation 2 by announcing the inclusion of three split-screen two-player modes as well as a whole host of brand new features.

Combining sky diving and surfing, skysurfing is one of the most dangerous extreme sports in the world and you’ll need a steady hand and balls the size of barrage balloons to compete in Skysurfer. The European release of Skysurfer will include three all-new split-screen two-player modes including Freestyle, Time Expansion and First Wins.

In Freestyle, both players can select their moves freely within a specific time, similar to a free program in other sports. Perform any trick in any given order - it’s up to the player in which way they want to accumulate an unbeatable high score against their rival.

Time Extension is a compulsory round and players will have to perform requested moves against their opponent. The faster and the better they perform the demanded moves the more time they are credited with as a bonus. The more time they accumulate by presenting the required tricks, the longer they have to improve their high score and defeat their opponent.

First Wins will see players perform requested moves, however, the player who activates the move first blocks his opponent, so that only the faster player is able to collect points for the demanded trick. The one who accumulates more points is the winner.

Exclusive to the European release, Skysurfer will also feature two fresh characters, complete with updated animations and five shiny new skysurf boards, supplied courtesy of Oxygen. In terms of gameplay, the main difference between each of the locations is the air currents. The easy course has no turbulence, whilst the hard course requires a lot of give and take with the analogue sticks. Updated practice levels and real-time demo mode have also been included.

With all-new split-screen modes, characters, animations, practice levels and graphical improvements, Skysurfer looks like it’s going to be the extreme sports title for PlayStation 2.

Skysurfer will be published by SWING! Entert@inment Media and distributed by Virgin Interactive for PS2 in Summer 2001, priced £39.99.
