Acclaim clinches Tecmo's Dead or Alive 2 for Sega Dreamcast

Acclaim and Tecmo reach international publishing agreement for highly-praised, much sought-after, long-awaited Sega Dreamcast sequel to Dead or Alive.

LONDON, 2 MARCH 2000 - ACClaim International, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced that a publishing agreement had been signed with Tecmo to bring their highly-anticipated Sega Dreamcast™ fighting game Dead or Alive 2 to international markets. The agreement, effective from 21s' February 2000, provides Acclaim with publishing rights for all markets excluding North America, Japan and South East Asia.
Tecmo's killer sequel to the arcade hit Dead or Alive has been in development for both coin-op and Sega Dreamcast for the last 24 months and it has gained much praise from the global video-gaming press. The game makes full use of the Sega Dreamcast's 128 Bit processing power providing it with a repertoire of fighting movements which is unparalleled.
Setting a new benchmark for Sega Dreamcast graphics, Dead or Alive 2 has an ensemble of characters with near-CG quality human movements and personalities. With a combination of hand-drawn and motion-captured animation, subtle gestures, emotions and complex attack sequences are delivered with startling reality. Characters fight in traditional arenas but also utilise their surrounding environments to gain advantage over their opponent. Climbing platforms and vertical surfaces players can spring surprise attacks and manoeuvres with blistering speed. Further impacting its multi-player gameplay, Dead or Alive 2 has a Tag Battle mode allowing players to switch between characters during matches in two-player or a spectacular simultaneous four-player mode.
With the release date set for this May, the gaming community will already be on tenterhooks in anticipation. Among hundreds of pages of praise from around the globe Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine said:
