Havok Accelerates Next-Generation Games At E3 Conference

Console, PC, and GPU technology lead the way for accelerated physics

Los Angeles, CA, May 9, 2006– Havok, the game industry's leading supplier of cross-platform middleware solutions, brakes new ground at this year's "E3" Electronic Entertainment Expo with the announcement of GPU-accelerated physics in cutting edge titles from leading cross-platform developers such as Flagship Studios and Eden Games. Adding objects in the tens of thousands and a range of physics effects such as debris, smoke and fluids, Havok's GPU-accelerated physics, Havok FX™ running on NVIDIA's GeForce®7 Series GPU, is making games more realistic than ever before.

Flagship Studios' upcoming Hellgate: London, a first-person role-playing game set in near-future London, will take advantage of Havok's full range of middleware products that span game-play physics, character animation, and Havok's newest GPU-accelerated physics effects middleware, Havok FX.

Hellgate: London poignantly demonstrates the capabilities of Havok FX- the ability to insert not just hundreds, but thousands and tens of thousands of objects into a game, adding not only eye-popping effects, but allowing game-play and effects objects to interact without loosing speed, stability, resolution, or having to purchase additional hardware.

"With Havok FX we can explore new types of visual effects that add realism into
Hellgate: London," says Tyler Thompson, Technical Director at Flagship Studios. "Given the widespread installed base of GPU's and the incredible performance of the new NVIDIA GeForce 7900 boards, Havok FX was a natural choice."

Eden Games' new horror action adventure game – Alone in the Dark – is an investigation into the paranormal – told with an innovative TV series narrative style that demands constant interaction between characters and environmental elements. The result of adding Havok's physics and GPU-accelerated physics effects middleware produces a chilling experience as the realism of game-play objects, such as men battling monsters, and effects debris interact in truly believable and realistic ways.

"We wanted the action in our game to focus on interactive elements in a highly intuitive manner," says David Nadal, Game Director at Eden Games. "We knew Havok Physics could help us do that for game-play elements, but we wanted to push the envelope even further to add persistent effects that could interact with game-play elements. Havok's GPU-accelerated physics effects middleware helped us achieve that in surprisingly little time."

Havok solutions will be showcased on the E3 floor on all leading game platforms, including PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360™, in more than 34 titles and 25 different developers.

"We look forward each year to seeing the stunning achievements of the game industry at E3, and the unique ways in which Havok technology helps developers realize their creative visions," says Jeff Yates, VP Product Management at Havok. "This year's E3 conference exceeds our biggest expectations, as we see more developers extend their use of Havok's physics, animation, and effects middleware in their games. Our hats are off to the creative and technical teams that put the heart in the industry's most visible event."
