Christmas usually starts when retailers starts pushing festive promotions onto unsuspecting consumers. Normally this is around October. But Gamestation has been good, waiting until the 1st December to do something about the holiday season.
Yes, game characters and the Christmas nativity, together at last! The specialist retailer polled 30,000 customers asking which icons would best replace the cast of the traditional nativity scene, and commissioned large statues of the chosen characters to amuse passers-by.
The role of Baby Jesus went to LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy, Zelda assumes the role of Mary and the burly Marcus Phoenix becomes the modern-day Joseph. Naturally. Mario and Solid Snake come bearing gifts as two of the three wise men - as does Obi Wan Kenobi, which technically is a bit of a copout. Sonic and Yoshi round off the scene as stable creatures.
It's a commendable effort, although Sonic looks a touch awkward and Marcus seems like he's going to go a bit 'Rambo' on the rest of the nativity characters at any moment. If you see it outside a Gamestation store, let us know and tell us what you think of the craftsmanship.
