Summary
MX bikes and ATVs have always been at war on the racetrack. There have no doubt been countless anecdotes of the benefits and drawbacks between each one, and stories of epic battles between the two arch-vehicle-rivals. THQ's MX Vs ATV series has explored this racing category with finesse in the past, and new elements introduced in Reflex aim to create a more immersive experience.
Its namesake is based on the Rider Reflex system, which offers the ability to control both your vehicle and your rider independently of one another. This is done with the dual analog sticks on your controller – the left stick veers your ride around the track, while the right stick allows you to lean in any given direction.
This leaning business is most important for the pro racer, as it will enhance your turning circles and help you perform more natural tricks whilst in the air. After hitting a ramp, pushing the right stick up or down will control your direction, and doing quarter-circle moves and other rotations will let you pull off fancy stunts.
If you're about to land badly though, the Wreck Avoidance System is at hand to help you; a yellow arrow will appear for a split second and it's your job to move the stick in that indicated direction to help get your balance back. Otherwise, your face will be dragging along the dirt.
And it'll make a difference too, with track deformation allowing you to carve your own racing line and mess up others. In doing the latter, you can help screw up the times and performance of the eleven other players that can participate online. The 12-player online multiplayer is sure to cause a lot of arguments, for sure.
