Summary

Some of you may not have heard of it until now, but Dr Seuss' Cat in the Hat is a famous tale with a captivating and imaginative story. And it's about to get a whole lot bigger as the story makes its way onto the big screen with the help of Mike Myers and Alec Baldwin amongst others. However, where there's a film, there's a game right? And here it is on PC.

Inspired by the film as well as the original story, Cat in the Hat's PC outing tells the story of Conrad, a young boy who's been tricked by his neighbour, Quinn, into opening the Cat's big red box of Seussian magic, allowing it to escape into the real world. Now the Cat must help Conrad and his sister Sally, return the Seussian magic to the box and retrieve three pieces of a special "Crab Lock" in order to seal the box for good.

It's a great story, and makes a great excuse for a brand new 3D adventure. The game's setting and fantasy locales are as Cat in the Hat fans might expect, and relate closely to the new film of the same name. But Cat in the Hat on PS2 doesn't borrow all of its scenery from the film - there are also several brand new areas and rooms that have never been seen before.

And as players wander these vibrant and colourful environments, they'll meet with several familiar Dr Seuss enemies and friends such as Things1 and 2 and the ever-pessimistic fish. It all sounds a little bizarre in places, but as a game, Cat in the Hat is a faithful story and a thoroughbred 3D adventure affair in which players assume control of the infamous Cat in a bid to put things right in the world. You'll make good use of the Cat's umbrella as you float across gaping chasms, shield from enemy attacks and even capture enemies.

It's certainly intriguing, and although it's well suited to a younger audience, well though out gameplay means there's a challenge here for players of any skill level.
