Summary

As is often the case with video game movie tie-ins, this zany platformer for the Game Boy Advance offers a 2D, side-scrolling alternative to its 3D home console big brothers. All versions are based on the 2003 live action film, itself inspired by the famous Dr. Seuss' first children's book.

The game tells the story of Conrad, a young boy who has been tricked by his neighbour, Mr. Quinn, into opening the Cat's big red box of Seussian magic and allowing it to escape into the real world. Consequently, a veritable army of Seussian creatures then transforms the one time normal house into a Seuss-styled world, meaning that it's therefore up to the famous behatted feline to venture into the world, remove all the Creatures, and reclaim order before Mom gets home.

Gameplay in Cat in the Hat is made up of three different modes, with the main offering seeing players guide the protagonist across 16 levels, spread out over four unique theme-based rooms, in traditional side-scrolling platforming style. As well as this, the game also offers a racing-style mode, in which you have to chase Thing 1 and Thing 2 in your SLOW mobile, as well as an underwater shoot-em-up mode that has you take control of Driver Dan.

Staying faithful to the general theme of the original Dr. Seuss book, The Cat in the Hat on GBA is more geared towards the younger gamer, offering simple and easy to pick up gameplay amidst a weird and wonderful virtual universe.
