Summary
Not wanting to stray too far from your typical developer/director's vision of the future, Devastation doesn't, setting the scene on a post-apocalyptic Earth where survival and ultimate dominance are all that matter. Appearing in the form of a high action, teamplay-orientated first-person shooter, the game pits teams of rebelling street fighters, gang leaders, mercenaries and ex-military fighters against overwhelming armies of high-tech corporate troopers.
As the actual story goes, powerful, corrupt corporations are in control of remaining technology and rule what's left of society. Pacification Squads, a brutal private police force, maintain order for the corporate syndicate. The only hope for freedom is a small group of Resistance fighters made up of gang leaders, mercenaries and ex-military operatives. As the Resistance leader you must assemble your army and travel the globe, restoring peace and sanity in a very dangerous world.
The game itself features a total of 32 extensive levels, set across four distinct environments, comprising 20 single-player and 12 multiplayer maps. The objective-based single player campaign calls for special skills like stealth, surveillance, computer hacking and sniping, whilst also presenting a dynamic tactical component that allows you to decide how much control to exert over non-player character team mates. Each of the environments is totally interactive, meaning that everything in them can be used, manipulated or even destroyed. For example, you can set traps with garbage or grab yourself a broken bottle as a bit of a defensive measure.
Devastation also places heavy emphasis on its multiplayer element, having already established a community with the aid of a pre-release multiplayer demo. This frag-fest continues with the release of the full game, offering a wealth of modes and options and allowing a variety of both head-to-head and team-based games across both Arcade and Simulation settings.
