Summary

Konami's International Superstar Soccer's sophomore appearance for the Gameboy is ISS 2000. For those familiar with the ISS range this a welcome return to the play and manage style, as showcased on the original Nintendo 64 release. Konami have tried to emulate the playing style as faithfully as possible, and their efforts really show. Pretty much all the features are present, right down to the bouncing balls, representing player health. The coin-flick is there. Everything.

Ominously, there are no on pitch-play shots on the back of the box. A worrying sign you would agree. We would assume that this is due to the graphical limitations of the Gameboy letting the game down. It really does play nicely, with the spongy control method of the earlier releases intact. The ball physics are as good as could be expected, and the AI of the computer players is as good as anything on the platform. It does look a bit rough on the Gameboy’s minuscule screen, but this is par for the course.
When you buy the game you will notice the large battery housed in the back. A good sign for Gameboy owners. This stores all match-data, results, teams, transfers and preferences. Fantastic.

Complete with the original penalty system and link enabled this is a star buy for Gameboy owning footie fans.
