Summary

The Killzone series has blossomed into a beautiful butterfly thanks to technical, graphical and gameplay enhancements made in the last PlayStation 3 iteration. Of course, by beautiful butterfly we mean grim, gruesome and gore-tastic alien falcon of death. But that doesn’t have the same kind of ring to it. This third outing sees Sev and Rico once again experience heavy warfare against the vengeful Helghast Army, following the killing of former dictator Visari.

Still occupied on the Helghan planet, the invading ISA forces have suffered a blow to their plans - literally, when a nuclear bomb is detonated in the capital city of Phyruss. That’ll be Visari’s last hurrah in action, then. What’s more, the death of Sev and Rico’s nemesis in Killzone 2 has resulted in political unrest (as you might expect), infighting and murder.

Unlike Killzone 2’s rather urban alien setting, this time around you’ll be battling through Helghan’s more exotic locations - toxic nuclear wastelands, deadly jungles and arctic environments all await you here, in levels ten times bigger than the ones found in the last game. Sev and Rico even take the battle into space - and with each journey you must combat the elements as well as your enemy to survive.

If the story’s not enough to grip you, then Killzone 3 will also be able to take advantage of that expensive 3DTV you’ve got kicking around in the living room. Stereoscopic 3D support makes the action truly pop out at you for some edge-of-your-seat moments. Throw in new weapons and gadgets such as the jetpack and portable WMDs as well as PlayStation Move support and you’ve got one hell of a showdown - be it with the campaign or in the multiplayer modes.
