Summary

Ship Simulator 2006, despite its sequel-tastic name, is a new gaming concept. The game puts players at the helm of some of the most varied and detailed ships to be found at sea. Gamers will need to perform many various tasks, all set within stunning 3D environments. Ship Simulator 2006 offers gamers a eight different classes of ship, ranging from massive cargo ships to speedboats, yachts, water taxis and even the unfortunate Titanic.

OK, it's not entirely new, flight simulators have been doing this sort of thing for years - but it's the first time this style of game has featured boats.

The Titanic itself has been modelled accurately from the original designs. So if you ever had a yearning be "King of the World", Leonardo Di Caprio-style, this is probably be the best chance you'll get. Watch out for icebergs as you pilot the Titanic through shallow water.

Each different ship or boat has its own system of controls, giving the user a challenge array of controls to learn. There are over 700 sq km of waters on which to sail, from the biggest harbours in the world, such as Rotterdam and Hamburg, to the calm aqua marine waters of the Thai Phi Phi Islands.

There are 40 different missions for players to enjoy, including search-and-rescue missions, racing a speedboat and even steering the Titanic through shallow water. You'll gain credit by completing missions successfully, and lose them by crashing your boat into other waterborne objects, or the coastline.

Players can create their own missions using the mission editor, with a landscape editor that enables them to add things like gantry cranes, docks, and even cars from a library of 100 such items. Once built, these missions can be shared with other players on the special forum on the game's website. Scores can be compared on-line too.
