Summary

For those of you who like nothing better than to verbally abuse the managers when watching footy, shouting at the likes of Venables, Houllier and Wenger about how you could do a better job sitting at home on your fat sofa, here's your chance to prove it. Four Four Two is designed specifically for you, as it concentrates on the more physical aspects of football management, such as inspiring your team, coping with the press and challenging for the cup, rather than the usual array of tables and statistics.

Dropping players in at the very bottom, in the realms of obscurity (a team like Scarborough, for example) the game challenges you to take your team up through the ranks of the Nationwide League, the Premiership, and into Europe, the ultimate goal being to eventually manage a Champions League winning side. Now this is obviously the principal aspiration of all football teams; it's just slightly more likely to happen with Four Four Two on your PC than it is for your average Nationwide Conference team in real life (a team like Scarborough, for example. Sorry Scarborough).

A whole host of features can be found throughout the game. 21 leagues, 10 countries and accurate player stats from Touch-Line Data make for an authentic international soccer scenario, which includes all relevant cup competitions and correct graphical representations of all the players. Also a nice touch is the multiplayer option. This allows the armchair pundit to really stake his claim as the king of managers, by putting him up against up to three friends.

It seems that Four Four Two is a football management game designed for football fans, as opposed to a football management game designed for football management game fans. If you think you could do a better job than Sir Alex then here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is.
