Electronic Arts have resurrected the Need For Speed brand for the PS2 and done it with no little style. The series we thought we had seen the last of when the PS2 succeeded the PlayStation has been given a next generation makeover, easily making it the best NFS game out there.

The Need For Speed series has always been synonymous with the fastest, most exotic cars, and Hot Pursuit 2 features the best that Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini, among others, have to offer. There are dozens of tracks to race on, and all of them are lengthy drives. You really do have to concentrate when racing some of the more 'twisty-turny' courses, otherwise you'll find yourself chasing your opposing drivers' exhaust fumes.

So what's all this 'Hot Pursuit' business, then? It's not all Gumball-style boyracers without a care in the world - there's a small army of super-keen lawmen on your tail. They want to stop you having your dangerous automotive fun, and they'll employ every tactic in the book, from ramming you off the road to calling in the chopper coppers. In Hot Pursuit mode, you can also 'be the cop' and turn the tables on the speed devils, but if you choose to play on the wrong side of the law, there are scores of extra cars and courses to acquire in the competition modes. Get deep into the game, and you'll discover that towards the end of the competition and challenge modes, you'll most likely have to try and try again to earn your spurs, and rightly so. It's not so difficult to make you want to give it up - a little perseverance should eventually see you through.

Whichever side of the law you like to fall in with, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 will easily satisfy your criminally-inclined hunger.
