Summary

Dino Crisis contains scenes of extreme violence and gore. Excellent! Provided of course that simulated violence doesn't offend you, and in that case it’s best to stay clear of this title. Capcom’s Dino Crisis has braved the translation seas and has found its way onto Sega’s Dreamcast. Dino Crisis is similar to the excellent Resident Evil series of games but replace the un-dead with dinosaurs.

Three years ago, a Dr. Kirk supposedly perished in a research experiment involving pure energy. It seems that Dr. Kirk is still alive and there are rumours of a weird portal being opened. It is your mission to infiltrate the base and uncover the truth of this mysterious situation. Just don’t let the dinosaurs catch you.

The Dreamcast incarnation is double the resolution of the PlayStation version and as a result, the lines look a lot sharper and the image quality is cleaner. The textures have also been improved and the dinosaurs look scarier than ever. The music is atmospheric and suits the mood of the game perfectly.

The game control method is sufficient but it seems strange that it hasn’t been updated since the original Resident Evil game. Dino Crisis is rendered in full 3D but you couldn’t tell from playing it. The camera is constantly locked in position and you cannot swap to any first-person view.

Dino Crisis is a good game with plenty puzzles to solve and secrets to unlock. If you like Resident Evil, you should check this out.
