Summary

Scary films have a history for being among some of the most chilling themes in existence. While the majority of these films are of fictional quality, there are a few that are based around supposedly true stories. When the tale of the Blair Witch Project arrived on the big screen, the sheer chill factor of the film lead it to be a success. The film was such a success, in fact, that Take 2 Interactive decided to propel the franchise into the video games market with a trilogy of the series.

After the release of Volume 1: Rustin Parr on PC, the second part of the trilogy, Coffin Rock looks just as chilling its predecessors; on the big screen or otherwise. Take 2’s approach to the development of Coffin Rock is similar to that of the Resident Evil series. The game is set to consist of 3D characters roaming around a series of pre-rendered backdrops. The renders aren’t completely inactive, however; each one can be cleverly light-sourced to your character actions. Prime examples can be seen in the use of torches. The element of combat is not a hefty one, since exploration seems to be of high priority when progressing through the game. The game as a whole has the look and feel of a role-playing game more than anything else, and as such, may not be to everyone’s cup of tea.
