Summary

Get ready soccer fans as International Superstar Soccer 2000 makes it way onto the next generation Playstation. The ISS series is one of the best and most playable football franchises of recent years. Thanks to the graphical power of the PS2, ISS looks so good that sometimes you can be forgiven for forgetting you’re playing a videogame. It’s nice to have great graphics and suberb gameplay all in one polished package.

The presentation of ISS has also been revamped. A style and design overhaul has been carried out and subsequently the menus are easy to understand and navigate. The computer puts up a good and fair fight but where this game really comes into its own is in the two-player mode. The sheer amount of different ways a match can progress means that you never feel like you’re playing the same game twice. This is one game that you will be easily be playing for months.

International Superstar Soccer 2000 is one of the first games to make good use out of the pressure sensitive PS2 pads. The distance that you kick the ball depends on how hard you press the buttons. If you want to lob the ball, you only need a quick, gentle tap. Whereas, if you want to boot it downfield, it’s necessary to hammer it. This new way of game interaction gives ISS a unique feel which is completely engrossing.

Overall, ISS 2000 is easily a strong contender for football game of the year.
