Ouya began life in 2012 as a Kickstarter project to enable development of a new video games console. The console, based on Android, was the be "hackable". The Kickstarter, which asked for $950,000 quickly went past the $1,000,000 mark.
In 2015 the company was acquired by gaming peripheral maker Razer, bringing Ouya titles to its own Forge TV set-top box while maintaining the Ouya brand and console.
