Game publishers for Ouya, the, console that was Kickstarted using public investment as a protest against the triopoly of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have been breaking out the sales figures. While the indie devs are largely positive about the Android device as a way to reach more Android users, actual numbers since its June launch are less than stellar.
Let's begin with the fact that the number of Ouya owners currently striding the face of the planet is equatable with the number of people who back its Kickstarter: slightly less than 63,416.
Now, David Marsh who developed
Nimble Quest is upbeat stating that of 6,508 downloads, 122 purchases had been made, providing $427 profit.
Jack Shiels, the man behind twin-stick shooter,
Red, says, "We broke even within two and a half weeks, whilst sales are currently sitting at just below 400...".
Breaking even, making a buck or two. But then we hit the Ouya Exclusive title
TowerFall. It's worth reading what the game's Matt Thorson has to say:
“We’ve made about 2,000 sales so far at $15 each,” he told us. “So, sales have been surprisingly high for a new game on a new console. The game has definitely proven itself on Ouya, I think there’s enough demand to warrant bringing it to PC.
“The response has been amazing,” he continued. “A lot of high profile people in games have been praising the game, which is of course fantastic, and there’s been a lot of talk among gamers as well. Launching on Ouya got me a lot of attention, and the sales have been better than expected.”
(For some reason,
DigitalSpy decided to quote this as "200,000 sales at $15 by the way/)
