Dave Perry, the flamboyant president of Shiny Entertainment, has resigned from the studio it has emerged today,
as embattled Atari begins shuffling its assets in a bid to survive the coming year.
Perry's decision to walk is actually part of a tale of what is either loyalty and dedication or self-serving nest-feathery, or perhaps a mixture of the two. The Earthworm Jim director will be acting as an agent for the sale of the studio on behalf of the Infogrames group, contacting potential buyers and guiding them through what they might be acquiring.
"If I'm an employee of Atari, then I'd be stepping all over them," Perry told the Orange County Register. "This way, I'm representing a buyer. I can act swiftly and get buyers on the table. I pitched Shiny last time and got $47 million."
Perry states that he hopes to open something of a bidding war between potential publishers, though of course much of the valuable IP handled by the development house will be stripped by Atari. We'll update you on the progress of the sale as it happens.
Atari is having something of a difficult time right now, not least the banning of its Marc Ecco title in Australia.
