Speaking on US channel SpikeTV’s Game Head program yesterday, Nintendo of America’s cheery, chubby-cheeked marketing guru Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that Zelda: Twilight Princess will be coming to the GameCube this fall. This means in the autumn for our Brit readers or Q4 for anyone in marketing.
This puts it around a year later than its originally announced release date of fall 2005. According to Reggie, there’s still no plans for the title to be developed for Revolution with any enhanced, next-gen specialness – though of course it will be playable on the backwards-compatible console, whenever it eventually sees the light of day.
This follows on from
SPOnG’s news last month of Future’s beleagured Nintendo magazine, NGC, making all kinds of claims about the Revolution-compatibility of the title, all of which were strenuously denied by Nintendo.
Reggie also confirmed that the original DS model will be phased out in the US, unlike in Japan where both will continue to be sold, plus that more information will be released on Revolution on May 9th at Nintendo's pre-E3 press briefing, and that it is still to be released in the USA this year. Great news for Nintendo, especially in light of the earlier rather gloomy news regarding the
possible delays of the PS3’s US launch.
SPOnG will have more details on one of our most anticipated games for 2006, plus confirmation on the European release from Nintendo UK in the very near future. Suffice to say we are more than confident that European gamers will have this in their little stockings tied to the ends of their beds come Christmas this year if not before.
