A bunch of hackers, perhaps rocking the stereotypical long hair and slacker attitude, have managed to crack Sony’s PSP firmware on the supposedly unhackable firmware upgrades from 2.01 onwards.

PSP Updates forum moderator and uber-PSP hacker Fanjita has posted a version of his eLoader software which works with firmware versions up to 2.50.

This is apparently, according to PSP Updates, “A major accomplishment in unleashing homebrew on all systems”, opening the door to homebrew for PSP gamers who play on newer firmware. In practice, this now means that, should you have the inclination, you can use a Super Nintendo emulator on your PSP and download the homebrew games you can see being developed in the PSP Updates forums.

Whilst so far only a small number of games and emulators have been tested with the new boot loader, the list seems to be growing by the hour.

All systems with a copy of GTA, from where the exploit is located, that is.

Genuine flaw, or calculated plan to sell more copies of Liberty City Stories?

Lol, unhackable firmware...nothing is unhackable if it's made by man... now if they could hire God to program their Firmware... but he's done doing favors for Sony after he designed the PSP exterior me think.
