Capcom Japan has revealed Goku Makaimura - or Ghouls 'n' Ghosts - to the world, spreading a wave of happiness and excitement, and dare we say love across the gaming world.
A PSP exclusive, Ghouls and Ghosts Extreme as it’s likely to be called in the west, features what Capcom describes as 3DCG graphics, which is essentially two-dimensional gameplay presented in 3D.
It was also stated that Tokurou Fujiwara, the series creator and the man responsible for Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins, Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and the SNES exclusive masterwork what was Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts will head up the development team at Capcom.
A selection of new and old weaponry will be included, as well as a crucial new ability – Arthur will now be able to perform a double-jump, expanding the formula somewhat.
Have a good long look at the scans from Famitsu in the forum below. Yes, it’s actually a proper GnG game, the game many of us have been waiting for since 1991. And its in 2D, a somewhat surprising fact, given modern attitudes towards flat gaming in the industry.
Indeed, should Goku Makaimura sell well, it may well open the door to further 2D offerings from classic series that have fallen or are falling into the dimensional void having failed to make the leap to 3D. And we certainly hope that a major Castlevania release pioneers this.
Let us know your thoughts and stay tuned for ‘proper’ images on the game in the coming week.
