Forthcoming Treasure DS fighter: release date and screens.

Posted by Staff
New information and screens have been released for the forthcoming adaptation of Bleach, the extremely popular anime/manga featuring stuffed toys and fighting.

Yes, it’s yet another exciting franchise coming to the Nintendo DS. Even more exciting than that, it’s to be published by SEGA. Even more exciting than that, it’s being developed by Treasure, the greatest 2D developer in the universe.

Perhaps better known for its shooters over the years (Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga etc., etc.), the company also does a nice sideline in beat ‘em ups, most famously Guardian Heroes on the Saturn, and - naturally enough - Bleach will be a beat ‘em up. Though a recent version of Guardian Heroes on the GBA failed to quite have that Treasure spark of genius, Omega Factor, the Astro Boy game on the same platform, was sublime.

Making full use of the wireless capabilities of the DS, Bleach will be playable by up to four players at once, and it looks good; sort of like a cross between Samurai Shodown and Guilty Gear X. Bleach gets released in Japan on January 26, 2006. As you’d expect, a European release has yet to be confirmed, but we will keep you updated.

I am looking forward to this ALOT! BLEACH is one of my favourite animes, Treasure and Sega are two of the best game developers out there. I can't see how this won't be good!!

I too am a big Bleach fan (if you wanna know how coo it is you might be able to get a copy of first volume of Bleach manga at an Otakkars bookstore or Forbidden Planet near you). It's a good addictive action/comedy manga.

I love Treasure and Sega's work so I have faith that this will be a top game like Omega Factor. I'm glad we have a proper 2D beat em up at last showing that you don't have to do a SBM/Jump Superstars style game in order to do the system justice. Perhaps the makers of Guilty Gear DS should take note and give us the Guilty Gear like the PSP version. DS should handle 2D well enough.

Go Treasure and Sega!!

Yeah, i too think some of you guys should have a look at the bleach manga. just finished watching episode 43 of the TV series, and its great stuff. I hope the game will have the likes of Orihime, Chad, Ishida.....and not just the Shinigami Captains/Lieutenants.

I'm sure some of the other characters will get in there along with a few enemies maybe.

True the Bleach manga is top class (i'm up to volume 4 at the mo and trying to read Berserk manga at the same time). And about £6 per volume it's a steal and worth anyones money.

Try it out, then invest in the games.

I've just seen a picture with Ganju in it(not sure if you'll know him as he doesnt appear till later in the series)so I think that more or less shows that we will have the other characters in it.

just finished ep 44, little disappointed, had two friends watching it with me and ep was complete Ishida/quincy(and totally incomprehensible to anyone not caught up on the series) not a picosecond's worth of any other plot threads, next ep...Ishida could use aq friend, I'm thinking...

game looks uninteresting, fighting game, pah!
would rather see it as an RPG...mebbe even wit real time combat.

wait I have it, if it were coming out today (for simplicitys sake, making next gen moot)

for Xbox, 4-player Link/LIVE! Coop RPG with, something similar to Xmen Legends, only with a closer camera as you'd only need to worry about 1 character...combat would resolve similar to XML, with the exception of (bosses, mini-bosses) who must be faced in 3D button mashing combat.

This style of game would suit the story as Ichigo and the rest of the ryoka gain in power and follow thier own paths.

Still even as a pure botton masher, if the number of playable characters in excessively high, it might be cool, but I'd want LOTS of characters.

BWAH HA HA HA HA HAH!!

Precious, you really have to see the anime from the first episode before jumping to be introducing others to it (if you dig around the net you might find earlier eps somewhere). And like I said before, pluck up the courage to purchase the manga where you can catch up quickly. Trust me, I know a lot about manga and Bleach is hot stuff.

If you are worried about spending loads of money for the experience, that's the beauty of manga GNs (graphic novels), you can get them so damn cheap. Bleach manga is up to volume 8 at the moment. I buy my Bleach manga GNs from www.up1.co.uk for £4.26 each (as far as I know it's the cheapest price I've found for them in the u.k, not bad for 190 pages either).

The manga are the best way to catch up quickly to where the anime is now. I think picking up some manga is good to give any gamer something else to do in gaming breaks.

Come on did you really expect to understand any series joining it half way through? Most anime having long storylines so you can't really do that.

If you follow my advice you should try the manga (they are better than the anime because of no airtime restrictions on content which means more story for your quids). The manga are cheap to buy but of high quality. For like a fiver it's worth it. Nip over to UP1 website and have a look. If you like Bleach and sword fighting you should also try Berserk GNs from Dark Horse (highly recommended).

It's up to you anyways, sir. Take a chance on my recommendations if you like what you hear.

oh, I've pretty much seen every episode soon after it was subbed, the episode in question was merely unsuitable for piquing my friends interest, no biggie...they had previously expressed an interest in subbed Champloo and I had just noticed the Bleach had finished.

Not really a manga guy, graphic novels or good old comics either, more of a novel man, big, thick novels with lots of words on the page...closest I come to reading manga is Sexy Losers...not that theres anything wrong with comics, one of my good friends owns a comics store and pays outlandish sums of money for scraps of original art...it makes him happy and pays the bills, which is more than I can say about my reading preferences...

I use baka-updates rather than suki, no annoying German eBay popups
