Looks like Half Life is gonna have to do a real lot of work to pull players from Halo 2 once it get on Xbox. True Halo 2 is good but it needs an FPS rival on Live to really get things cooking.

I know a lot of people prefer Halo 2's multiplayer games much more than Half Life / Counter Strikes.

The only cool thing in half life dm is the grav gun. Other than that it's a bit lame compared to halo. That said i was very underwhelmed by halflife 2 as a whole

sadly the multi player aspect of halo2 was by far the best part... i sitll love the story... but it was a bit disapointing.... that said i think a halo sping off woudl be great... battelfield style... pelicans and scorpians and the different kidns fo troups... you woudl probaly play as a marine.. and could have 1 spartanrunnign around... liek in battlefront... i dont think i woudl ever stop playign that!

I think there's a Halo mod for battlefield, well at least one was in development when I was still playing 1942, whether it's done or not I don't know, but basically it was meant to be everything you just described. And yes Halo 2's multi player was much better than the single player so I feel justified in getting it.

I dont think Halo is even in the same league as Half-Life 2. The multiplayer in Halo is only good because everything else on x-box live is so medicore, so in contrast its extremly fun... but its the same s**t we've been playing for the last 10 years on the PC. nothing new. I think game makers should start trying to push the envelope when it comes to online gaming. Like splinter cell , chaos theory, i just bought it for the PC, and its very fun

i heard abotu that... but my current pc is in no condition to play any reletively current game... i was thinking that a good way for M$ to milk the halo thing on the next system and have a killer launch title woudl be to take the current halo2 engine and port it to the 360 and then just make massive levels and such... battlefiled style game with halo2 quality graphics (and no txture poping!) would be pretty sweet.

unfortunatley it woudl still probably take more than a year for the bungie guys to do that.

to each his own... i have been playing pc games for a long time... not so much recently due to my s**te old pc... and i never played anything back in the day that coudl supliment the deapth and variety that halo allows... tell me... which of these fantastic pc games was it that introduced vehicles in an fps? ... how about the 2 weapon max that force strategic decisons... then there is the phsyics that aloow for some very creative game play nto possibel in mroe simple shooters (quake3, unreal tourney). Admitedly counter strike is am amainzigly well balanced and very different experience than the others i mentioned but its also not as universaly apealing... not everyone is into the whole... once your dead your dead thing... reallity lacks soem of the hollywodd flare that peopel love so much... not to mention the guys over at valve didnt even make counter striek to begine with (but thats kind of off topic). As for chaos theory, it is indeed very awsome but suffers the same "reality isnt as much fun" problem that counter strike has. Plus the weapon balance and level design in halo is much better than anything i have ever played (not counting home made but thats again a different story). If you liek multiplayer fps's and you dont liek halo2 then you obviously havent given it a fair shake... you probably got to run aroudn for 5 minutes with one smg and randomly win or loose one on one fire fights... there is a heck of alot more to it than that.

Don't also forget that in Halo 2 Capture the flag game you can't shoot while carrying the flag. This bring a very well done strategic element into play where other team members must defend you to win. This wasnever the case in some many other FPS games.

I really have to say Halo 2 has made FPS game more accessible. I have experienced Quake 1, 2 and 3 Counter Strike etc and true in these games some people just become pros and others don't and this stopped me playing it. Xbox Live is good that it can match you up with people at your playing skill level. I've played on a friends Halo2 on XboxLive and I was okay. Takes a while to get used to the controls.

There was always gonna be a problem between Halo 2 and Half Life 2 because I perhaps they came out at roughly the same time. Both could be a sign of the Xbox rise against the pc as a gaming platform. Both were extremely hyped up games too and all the cancelations didn't help.

Halo 2 like Goldeneye long before it proves that console FPS games can work well next to their PC high spec counterparts. PC still gets some cool stuff mind.

I actually did give Halo 2 a “fair shake”.. I bought it the day it came out, beat it and experienced the horrible ending the next day, and tooled around online with it for about a week… and was extremely bored. There are no consequences for dying.. you die, and you respawn instantly, and then you do it over and over and over again, and you know what that does? It eliminates skill, because if I get into a shootout and die, then I simply respawn, and since I now have full health them I’m free to blow everybody else away. I prefer the new Counter Strike (source engine) because its realistic, games like half life and Rainbox six for the PC demand strategic thinking because if you die then your out for the round, until the next game, so when you get into a gunfight its creates a level of tension and excitement that rivals anything seen in Halo, because if you die it matters. About not holding weapons in capture the flag… almost every single first person shooter in existence has that feature… its nothing new, in almost every game , if you have the flag, your unarmed. Also.. you asked me about vehicular combat, Unreal Tournament 2004 came out almost a year before Halo 2 and has almost every kind of online vehicular combat you can think of, and they are all implemented better then they are in Halo 2. Also, a game called “Shogo” for the PC let you blast away online, or by acquiring vehicles and that game came out on the PC almost 6 or 7 years ago, PC gamers have been doing this for a while now, and there expectations are higher. Besides.. You’re forgetting Halo was playable on the PC first.. Halo came out on the PC almost a year before Halo 2 was out for x-box, and it allowed you to get online and use the same vehicles.. with better graphics and control, but it was a dull experience because on the PC the market is crowded with much better choices. Have you guys even played Half-Life 2??? Try it… it’s a much better game, seriously…LUPOS, you said you don’t have a fast PC, so that means you probably haven’t had a chance to play through the entire game. Or any of the new amazing games available on the PC, and thats the problem, your comparing old s**tty PC games like quake 1 & 2, to brand new x-box shooters. You need to play games like Half-life 2, Farcry, the NEW unreal, and the high end well developed games. To be honest I usually only play strategy games online, like warcraft 3. I own all 3 consoles, but I use them for offline playing, like RPG’s, racing games, fighting games, and platformers. I use my PC for shooters and strategy games. But to each his own I guess.

Oh yea.. LUPOS, I forgot to answer your question.. you asked “which of these fantastic pc games was it that introduced vehicles in an fps”, the answer is a game called “Redline”, it came out in 1999 (5 years before Halo 2). And If you meant online, the answer is Battlefield 1942.. it was the first online game that features pretty much any kind of vehicle you could think of, it came out in 2002 (2 years before Halo2).. also Unreal Tournament features a much better selection of online first person shooting with vehicles.

well i was actually talkign about halo... which came out in 2001... so battlefield was mutch later... as for redline... never heard of it... let me look that up...

ah! here it is!

lets see... "long on concept but short on control" hmmm so a game that has mixed generes and ended up sucking... lets see if i can think of any other shooter action games that also involved vehicles... hmm AHA... HERE IS ONE!

now... lets take a look at halo... wow... a game that succesfulyl blends two types of games to give a very different and original feel to what at the time was becoming a very tired genere.

sooooooo... while your technically right... i dont think anyone really cares abotu redline... there have been a lot of forgetable, attampets at genre blending that have faded into history, only good examples of real functionality manage to stay, halo, gta, etc..

and halo... besides just being a good aplication of a theory... is actually a very good game with good graphics and a great story... actualyl it just acord to me... wasnt there a level in golden eye where your drove a tank? not really up to halo... but it was a nice break in game play... and it was waaaay before red line and it was a console game :)
